Woon Lim is a Managing Director and Deputy Head of Equity of Daiwa Capital Markets America. He has been in this role for the past 10 years where he runs a sales desk servicing over 300 institutional investors in the U.S. and Canada on investing in Asia, including Southeast Asia. Mr. Lim has been making investment trips to Southeast Asia at least twice a year to look at emerging growth companies and emerging growth economies like Vietnam.
Mr. Lim started his financial career in Singapore in 1985 as a stockbroker in a local brokerage house. He then moved to New York in 1987 with HSBC Securities to sell Southeast Asian equities to U.S. institutional investors. In 1990, he was hired by Robert Fleming Securities to run their Asia ex-Japan equities sales desk. In that role, he created the Flemings Asia Conference in 1995 which is still hosted annually by J.P. Morgan Securities (which bought Robert Fleming in 1999).
Mr. Lim left J.P. Morgan Securities in 2001 to become an analyst in Asia ex-Japan equities at Argonaut Capital. He left Argonaut Capital in 2005 to help start Akana Capital, an Asian equities long/short hedge fund. He was there until 2009 when he decided to return to the sell-side with Daiwa Capital Markets America.
Mr. Lim received his M.S. in Industrial Administration from the Tepper School at Carnegie-Mellon University. He received his undergraduate degree from Imperial College in Mechanical Engineering with First Class Honors. He is a CFA charter holder.
