Sonjoy Chatterjee

Sonjoy is chairman and chief executive officer of the firm’s business in India. He is also chairman of the India Operating Committee and co-chairman of the India Diversity Council. Sonjoy joined Goldman Sachs as a partner in 2010.

He joined the firm after a 16-year career at ICICI Bank, where he served as an executive director on the Board of Directors, with responsibility for Corporate Banking, Investment Banking and International Consumer Banking. Sonjoy joined ICICI Bank’s predecessor, eICICI, in 1994. He later held various senior management roles, including as head of the Strategic Group and the founding managing director and chief executive officer of ICICI Bank UK PLC, the bank’s first overseas subsidiary. In 1999, he led the team responsible for listing ICICI as the first Indian company on the NYSE.

Sonjoy is a member of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. He is also a member of the international advisory group of the School of Public Health, Boston University and a member of the UN Women’s Business Sector Advisory Council for India.

Sonjoy earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a master’s degree in business administration from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.
